5 TIPS to landing a Rise of Resistance Boarding Group

Want to ride the best ride at Disney World? Right now, Disney World is currently experiencing a limited park capacity due to the COVID 19 protocols. This should make for a shorter wait time. However; most have noticed that Hollywood Studios and Rise of Resistance have not been enjoying those same wait times. RoR continues to be a tough get. Well here are a few tips to increase your odds at snagging those elusive Boarding Passes.

TIP #1 - My Disney Experience App
Download and get to know the My Disney Experience App available for any smartphone, Apple and Android, from their respective stores. Simply download the free app to your phone (this should be done before your trip) and log-in. The app will load all your plans including hotel reservations, tickets and group members, FastPass+, dining reservations and more. You must be logged-in to see this information and to join any virtual queue. Heres a breakdown of how to join the Virtual Queue.
Before you begin, reset your app by closing this and reopening. The longer the app stays open, the slower it will be able to respond.
Once you have the app loaded, look for the menu in the bottom right corner.
Then click on VIRTUAL QUEUES in the menu. Choose JOIN VIRTUAL QUEUE.
Rise of the Resistance and its current options for the queue, will pop up. (7am or 2pm) For the 7AM one, you do not need to be in the parks to join. All you have to do is have a park reservation. For the 2PM one you and your group do need to be in the parks (or at least gone in at some point) in order to join.
Once 7AM or 2PM comes around the screen that you see will change and a JOIN button will appear. Simply click this to join the virtual queue. The app will automatically select any of your friends or family members whom you manage to join the queue so don’t worry about selecting them.
At the bottom of this screen you’ll see the JOIN button and the next screen will tell you what boarding group you’re in.

TIP #2 - Park Reservations are a must
Make sure everyone in your group has a valid ticket AND a park reservation. If any of these things are missing, they’re out. If you’re aiming to get the 2PM queue, make sure everyone has already entered the park, otherwise they’re out. Below are some park reservation important details per Disney World.
Reservations are limited and subject to availability and are not guaranteed until a reservation is finalized.
Guests who purchased a ticket or annual pass with Park Hopper benefits are now able to visit more than one park per day after 2 PM. Learn more about the Park Hopper option.
A park reservation must be made for each day of entry. If you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to make a park reservation for each date of your visit.
We highly recommend that you make your park reservation as soon as you complete your ticket purchase, as availability can change until the reservation is finalized.
If you need to modify your reservation, please visit My Plans to cancel your reservation. Then, book a new reservation (subject to availability).

TIP #3 - Use your data
Find a location where you get the best signal possible. There will be a number of guests accessing the Disney WiFi trying to beat you to the boarding process. Try to avoid using the Disney World WiFi. Use your phones data if applicable. If your data isn't sufficient, then the WiFi is your only option. Make sure you know how to refresh the virtual queue page by pulling down and releasing. This is a critical step in getting into the queue. Practice it for several minutes before, don’t bank on it just working.

TIP #4 - Use a second phone for World Clock timing
If you’re at the parks, have a second phone in front of you with the World Clock website pulled up. Disney’s queue system runs off of this and it allows you to view the time and seconds which is critical. As you watch the World Clock, when it gets to 5 seconds before the queue opens, pull down on the virtual queue page as if you were going to refresh it but don’t let go yet. Once the clock hits the exact time (7AM or 2PM) let go and the page will refresh with the blue JOIN button. Click on this immediately. Then, without changing the list of selected guests, hit the blue JOIN button at the bottom of this page.

TIP #5 - Friends and Family List
Once you’ve clicked “Join Group” on the Rise of the Resistance homescreen RIGHT at 7AM (or 1PM), the next screen will be to select your group. The system will AUTOMATICALLY select anyone you’re friends with that also has a Hollywood Studios park pass that day. DO NOT waste time unselecting anyone from your group if they aren’t tall enough or they don’t want to ride. You will lose very valuable seconds, as you need to click next ASAP to get a group. If you can book a park pass for someone, you can book a Boarding Group for them. If not, they need to be booking their own.
I hope this helps you and your party ride the best ride at Disney! If you try all these steps and can't get in the 7am boarding groups, then try it all again for the 2pm groups.
-And finally, if the app glitches and causes you to lose out on a Boarding Group you otherwise would have gotten, take screenshots. Cast members may be able to work some Disney Magic for you.

DISNEY PARKS UPDATE: DECEMBER 15, 2020 (DISNEY PARKS BLOG)
It’s clear the Force is strong with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Since its debut last year, this spectacular experience inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has proven to be one of the most popular attractions at Walt Disney World Resort.
To better help guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios plan ahead for their day at the park, we’re piloting a new approach to the virtual queue system for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Starting Nov. 3, 2020, here’s how it will work:
Guests with a valid ticket or annual pass and a Disney Park Pass reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be able to access the virtual queue system and check for an available boarding group starting at 7 a.m. on the day of their park reservation. This can be done before you leave your Disney resort hotel, or wherever else nearby you might be at that time.
Just as we do today, the virtual queue will reopen daily at 2 p.m. for anyone who wasn’t already able to join a boarding group earlier in the day. Note: Guests must be inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios to access this second virtual queue opportunity, and access to a boarding group is subject to availability and not guaranteed.
This new approach will make a day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios more enjoyable and relaxing, as guests no longer need to be inside the park each morning to request a boarding group for the first virtual queue opportunity. As a reminder, you need to be inside the park to request the 2 p.m. boarding groups.
To try to maximize the number of boarding groups we’re able to accommodate while adhering to current health and safety guidelines, we recently added a clear barrier between the two rows of seats on each First Order Fleet Transport vehicle inside the attraction. This enables us to invite more guests to board Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance each day.
The attraction’s virtual queue is only accessible via the My Disney Experience mobile app. To maximize your opportunity to secure a boarding group, here are some tips we recommend you check off your list prior to your day at the park:
Register an account in My Disney Experience
Download the My Disney Experience mobile app on your smart device or ensure you’re using the most updated version of the app before you arrive at the park.
Link and assign all park tickets in your party to a My Disney Experience account
Have a valid Disney Park Pass reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the day you’re visiting
Select one member of your party to access the virtual queue for everyone in your group; if multiple people in your party try to join the virtual queue simultaneously, that may complicate your ability to secure a boarding group
Remember, virtual queue boarding groups are limited and subject to availability
This new pilot approach to the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance virtual queue is designed to give guests the best possible experience during a day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. We look forward to seeing you on your next trip to a galaxy far, far away.
